WHITE: Vinha da Casa Branca 2018
RED: Calcario 2014
In the hands of the fifth generation, this estate in the south of Setubal near the Algarve is 10km from the Atlantic, a key influence in the weather here and also the wines. Algae and seaweed from the ocean is used in the vineyards and they have bees and sheep to help as well – the property also has forest on it and everything is treated very holistically.
Vinha da Casa Branca is made from Arinto and Antao Vaz and is light ( 11.5% alcohol ) and fresh as a sea breeze, while Calcario is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Petit Verdot and Alicante Bouschet and is a serious red coming into its own now with deep fruit, exotic spice and great complexity.
